Documentary review: Is Bitcoin a step towards utopia?
The conflict between Israel and Iran is escalating, so let's perhaps embrace Bitcoin?
I recommend this documentary about Bitcoin but I do have one main follow-up question…
The documentary describes how a digital ledger today keeps track of Bitcoin. However, a ledger became a problem during the days of mercantilism. Each country had their own ledger and hoarded gold. So what stops a country like the US from creating a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve? What prevents a war between countries over Bitcoin?
At the end of the day, the war is always within ourselves. What it means to be human is to live with this struggle.
There’s nothing inherently good or evil about Bitcoin. Bitcoin can fund terrorist activities. Bitcoin can help people escape war-torn areas. So I consider how Bitcoin is only as good as our leaders. Bitcoin could be a step towards utopia. However, that doesn’t solve the world’s problems. Bitcoin won’t suddenly end the conflict between Israel and Iran.
Let’s call on the better angels of our nature. There is wisdom in knowing when to fight and when not to fight.
