It's true both chinese and American will feel the negative impact from the trade war. But I think the chinese government have more will power to fight a long and costly trade war. It seems like trump is much more willing to buckle against the pressure from Americans and lobbyists. China is experiencing a high level of patriotism from this episode and their political system will allows them to better handle dissent.

Why would the CCP choose to fight a long and costly trade war? What does the CCP hope to gain? Free trade as we know it is over.
How did Trump buckle? Trump completed his objective. He formed a tariff wall with India, Japan, South Korea, & Vietnam.
How does patriotism help the Chinese people with their economy? They are making manufactured goods that no one is taking. How do the Chinese people make money? Without money, the Chinese people will either blame their government or other countries. Other countries are not helping.
Yes, their political system does allow them to handle dissent better but the cracks are forming. President Xi should be advised to focus on his own economy. The US along with India, Japan, South Korea, & Vietnam are not taking Chinese manufactured goods. What is China going to do after losing those trading partners?
I haven't even mentioned The Economist article. President Xi is losing control of his party.

The CCP is not happy about the US-UK trade deal.

It’s unclear to me what will convince you that the US won this trade war.
